One of the pleasures of my job is that I’m always seeing something new and get to deal with a large amount of technical subject matter and a wide variety of legal challenges.

My particular experience lies in filing and prosecuting patent and design applications worldwide for mechanical subject matter. I turn my hand to so many different things  – I work across the board on anything from plumbing connectors to carpet-making machines, solar panels to wind turbines and even on toilet cubicles for aeroplanes!

The task of writing the patent specification is a real challenge that I enjoy. Sitting down and talking to inventors, discussing ideas and reviewing samples is one of the best things about my job.

I work with a wide variety of start-ups and smaller businesses that often require commercial guidance and support. I like to get to know my clients, communicate with them clearly and explain exactly what I can do for them. A good understanding of their business interests helps to identify what they really need from their patent.

Recent experience

Successfully concluded Opposition/Appeal proceedings at the EPO by having the patent revoked.

Assisting a client with building a patent and design portfolio for major funding rounds.

Challenging a third party patent on behalf of a client resulting in a favourable commercial settlement.
